After seeing the doctor, he or she will usually offer you something that should help you sleep better as you try to work on other issues. The right help does not end there though as you may be sent to speak with someone to determine if there are a lot of emotional or stressful events taking place in your life. Working through those issues and learning how to handle them in a better manner will be the best insomnia help that you could receive.

Lately, you haven’t been able to sleep well… now considering using Trazodone. Think for a moment.

Will it help?

I strongly suggest you don’t do anything until you’re fully aware of ‘Trazodone Side Effects Insomnia’.

While side effects of drugs vary from person to person, those commonly known for Trazodone include, but not limited to, sleepiness, headache, congestion, stomach upset, constipation, nervousness, muscle pain, sweating, and blurred vision.

But when Trazodone is being used to treat ‘standalone’ insomnia, for some the side effects can be more pronounced and long-drawn than for others. Although Trazodone will generally help bring short-term insomnia relief and comfort to those deprived of good sleep, it’s the morning after however that certain side effects may start to kick in. It has been reported that many suffer from a blocked nose, feelings of lethargy and grogginess (often being described as resembling a hangover from a drink the night before) and for others, a degree of unsteadiness.

Is there anything wrong with using Trazodone for insomnia cure?

Yes, there is. This happens when Trazodone is used primarily to treat insomnia in the absence of major depressive disorders. Insomnia in and of itself is a symptom, not a disease. Using Trazodone on insomnia alone is just treating a symptom; it’s not effective as a cure! Ironically, for many (without depressive disorders) who sought insomnia cure and found relief (treating one symptom) from a good night’s sleep using Trazodone, would least expect to experience a few pronounced and perhaps, more unbearable side effects the next morning.

So, the next time if turning to any over-the-counter and prescription drugs is a ‘must have’ to help you sleep better at night, and you’re not suffering from any major depressive disorders, then choose a medication that is designed specifically for sleep-depriving conditions, not Trazodone.

Better still, if you can try some natural cures for insomnia.

mild sleep apnea

The most common type of sleep apnea syndrome is called the obstructive sleep apnea. Sleep apnea means "cessation of breath. "It is characterized by repetitive episodes of obstruction of upper airway that occur during sleep, generally associated with a decrease in oxygen saturation of blood. In other words, the airway becomes obstructed at several possible sites. The upper airway can be obstructed by excess tissue in the airway, large tonsils, and a large tongue and usually includes muscles of the airway to collapse when relaxation and sleep. Another site of obstruction can be the nasal passages.

Apnea Sleep is a disorder characterized by a reduction or cessation (pause of breathing, airflow) during sleep. It is common in adults, but rare in children. There are two types of sleep apnea, apnea Obstructive sleep more frequent and less frequent apnea Central sleep, which will be described later in this article.

Behavioral changes

Behavioral changes are an important part of the program treatment, and in mild cases behavioral therapy may be all that is necessary. The individual should avoid the use of alcohol, tobacco and sleeping pills, which make the airways more susceptible to collapse during sleep and prolong periods of apnea. People obese can benefit from losing weight. Even a 10 percent weight loss can reduce the number of apneic events for most patients. In some patients with mild sleep apnea, breathing pauses occur only when they sleep on their backs. In such cases, pillows aid and other devices that allow them to sleep in a lateral position is often helpful.

Weight loss

Apnea sleep may be related to weight. Additional fat around the neck in May make the narrowest airways, making it the most likely barriers occur. For some obese people, especially those with mild cases, losing weight can be an effective treatment. Or weight loss may reduce the severity of sleep apnea. However, it may be difficult to lose weight if you suffer from sleep apnea untreated: You may be too tired for the year and you may eat to stay awake. In addition, it takes some time in May before the weight loss is achieved, so in the light possible consequences of untreated OSA, using another treatment option while working towards the goal of weight loss may be a option.

Pressure requirements

The optimum pressure for use in CPAP therapy is determined in a laboratory study of sleep during which the degree of apnea is followed with various mask adjustments and increasing levels of air pressure. The pressures are measured in centimeters water and can vary from 3 to 20 cm, with most patients requiring 6 to 12 cm of pressure to reduce respiratory index less than 10 events per hour.
Sleeping on your side

People who experience sleep apnea when they sleep on their backs may benefit pillows special or folk remedies that encourage side-sleeping, such as "tennis ball trick" (putting a tennis ball under you do not feel uncomfortable sleeping).

Pulse oximetry

Pulse oximetry is a noninvasive method that allows caregivers to monitor health oxygenation of the blood of a patient. A sensor is placed on a relatively thin patient anatomy, usually a finger or lobe ear, and red and infrared light is passed from one side to another. Based on the relationship between the absorption of light red and infrared caused by the difference in color between oxygen-bound (red) and independent (blue) hemoglobin in the capillary bed, an approximation of oxygenation.

Oral appliances

Another option is wearing a mouth appliance designed to keep your throat open. CPAP devices is more effective than oral appliances, but oral May be easier for you to use. Some are designed to open your throat by bringing your jaw forward, which can sometimes relieve snoring and obstructive sleep apnea lightly.

Don’t despair if you are sleep starved!

There are plenty of insomnia treatment options that can be considered. This is good news. To manage your insomnia effectively, the first thing that you should do is consult your doctor. The best person who can assess your condition before giving you sound advice on the best available treatment is your doctor whom you consult. One can expect to have Zaleplon which is sold under the name Sonata, and other similar prescription drugs for insomnia conditions, to be one of the most common insomnia treatment.

This treatment under doctor’s supervision is generally considered appropriate and sound because of the minimal side effects and it is also known to be very effective. If you don’t allow yourself four to six weeks, it’s not likely you will find any significant difference before and after administration of the prescription medication because time is needed to produce the desired effects.

Other than treatment by prescription medication, there are other actions that can be taken on your part to manage insomnia. Things you can do to help improve and get you a good night’s sleep need not be hard. Drinking tea, reading a book or taking a shower before going to bed are simple acts that will help. In the face of the insomnia challenge, one need not lose heart with so many effective treatment options to choose from to make that difference needed to improve sleep quality.

It’s not wise to leave insomnia untreated due to grave consequences that may follow as with any sleep depriving condition. It’s not uncommon to start hallucinating when you deprive yourself of proper sleep over a long time for one, and it can also lead to much more serious health repercussions.

Consequently, if you find yourself not sleeping properly for a long time and think that you may be suffering from insomnia, you should immediately consult a medical professional. This is the most important first step to effective insomnia help one can get.
