Insomnia help is not complete without wholesome perspectives, sobering thoughts. At times, a shocker or wake-up call may even be necessary to do long term good.
What can happen if you sleep less than seven hours nightly? You might live shorter.
Want to live longer? Sleep More.
At least this is what recent research findings suggest. This is because researchers are saying people who habitually starved themselves of sleep may raise their risk of heart disease.
LESS SLEEP - MORE RISKS
Separate studies have also associated obesity and diabetes with unhealthy, abnormal sleep patterns. The latter seems to have a tendency to distort or disrupt the release of appetite-related hormones.

REAP WHAT YOU SOW
It has been recently reported that those who sleep five to seven hours every night are almost twice as likely to develop early signs of blood vessel related problems or complications when compared with others who sleep more.
People who regularly survive with less than five hours of sleep nightly subject themselves to even higher risk.
SLEEP IS SERIOUS
What all these mean is that insomnia or for that matter, any condition or what you do that can result in prolonged sleep deprivation is not to be taken lightly, if you’re serious about your long term health and overall quality of life.
Hope the sobering idea of “Sleep Less, Live Shorter” is enough to spur you on to a good start with getting real insomnia help!

Insomnia Help: When You Don’t Sleep Well, It May Not Be Insomnia!
Filed Under Insomnia Help General | Leave a Comment
Insomnia is not the only known sleep disorder. This is difficulty with falling asleep, staying asleep or waking up too early for no apparent reasons. It can be induced by stress. The condition is fairly common in teenagers, whose body clocks are typically changing as a matter of habit – causing them to want to sleep late and wake up later.
However, not every person who is having sleep problems necessarily suffers from insomnia. Sleep Walking, Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD) and Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), Narcolepsy and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea are just examples of four other sleep disorders.
Apart from insomnia, most people are not familiar with other less known sleep disorders which I hope to briefly introduce.
Sleep Walking
The condition is more common among children. It is often associated with bed-wetting. Those suffering from the condition would behave in weird manners like walking or doing things while remaining in deep sleep.
In adults sleep walking may be caused by lack of sleep or effects triggered by medications.
After waking up, the affected person commonly does not remember anything and would behave as though nothing has happened.
Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD) and Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS)
Both conditions often go together. Those suffering from PLMD involuntarily jerk their limbs while sleeping. Those jerks disrupt their sleep causing them to wake up unrefreshed. People affected by RLS can’t lie still. They typically feel an irresistible urge to move their arms or legs while in bed. Others get a tingly or creepy sensation in their limbs which will get relief with movement.
Narcolepsy
This is a sleep disorder that causes a person to fall asleep abruptly, usually when doing some monotonous routines. It has been observed to happen in the middle of a conversation or a meal.
Obstructive Sleep Apnoea
This is a potentially dangerous condition in which breathing stops for a few seconds, rousing the patient enough to start him or her breathing again. Studies have shown this sleep disorder can happen 20 to 30 times an hour, disrupting rest, wearing the patient and leaving the person exhausted the next day.
More People with Sleep Problems
It has been reported that the number of people seeking help with sleep problems have gone up significantly over the years. Hospitals have to ramp up manpower and facilities to handle the surge in demand for treating those problems.
These include finding it hard to go to sleep or staying asleep, or having breathing problems like snoring or sleep apnoea.
A Disturbing Trend
Sleep disorders can have their roots in stress, shift-work, obesity or medical conditions, and are not confined to adults.
Both doctors and educators say the trend is worrying because lack of sleep can make children obese, raise their risk of infections and accidents as well as sap their ability to learn. More studies have found that adults and children who get enough of good sleep tend to be more alert, think faster, assimilate more and make better decisions.

To get effective insomnia help, there is nothing more important than first knowing exactly what your actual experience with insomnia has been like. For any doctor to provide you with effective help, he or she must first have a good idea of the kind of insomnia you are suffering from. To get the best help you need to first find out what other issues you or your body has to deal with. It should be noted the insomnia that one suffers from is not normally the entire problem. Chances are it is just manifesting itself as a symptom of something else that needs to be established.
Get To The Root
While not restricting yourself to various insomnia help options it is crucial for you to first look into what exactly is causing the insomnia in order to have the problem readily diagnosed and resolved. Your problem with insomnia will never be fully resolved as long as the root causes of it are not clearly known. There are things that can be done to help relieve the issues of insomnia while you are trying to work on the bigger picture. Getting temporary relief from the effects of insomnia is only solving part of your insomnia problem. Make sure you get to the bottom of the problem. An Option For Help
If you find yourself in dire need of insomnia help, you should immediately speak with a medical professional. After seeing the doctor, he or she will usually offer you something that should help you sleep better as you try to work on other issues. The right help does not end there though as you may be sent to speak with someone to determine if there are a lot of emotional or stressful events taking place in your life. Working through those issues and learning how to handle them in a better manner will be the best insomnia help that you could receive.
You Don’t Have To Be Rich To Get Help
When you can neither afford to consult a doctor nor have medical coverage, for you to think that getting insomnia help is not quite possible is understandable. There is no need to feel helpless as help with insomnia for you can come in many different ways. It does not always have to come from a doctor. To get all the help you need, make sure you do all that is necessary. Beside trying out various options for natural cures for insomnia out there that claim to be able to help you sleep at night, sharing with friends and family about your thoughts and feelings, for example, is something practical and useful that you can do to help.
Do not limit your options. No harm trying. Your courage to ‘trial and error’ may well be a great way for you to get started with all the insomnia help you need.

Insomnia Help | Ignoring It At Your Own Peril! (II)

Don’t despair if you are sleep starved!
There are plenty of insomnia treatment options that can be considered. This is good news. To manage your insomnia effectively, the first thing that you should do is consult your doctor. The best person who can assess your condition before giving you sound advice on the best available treatment is your doctor whom you consult. One can expect to have Zaleplon which is sold under the name Sonata, and other similar prescription drugs for insomnia conditions, to be one of the most common insomnia treatment.
This treatment under doctor’s supervision is generally considered appropriate and sound because of the minimal side effects and it is also known to be very effective. If you don’t allow yourself four to six weeks, it’s not likely you will find any significant difference before and after administration of the prescription medication because time is needed to produce the desired effects.
Other than treatment by prescription medication, there are other actions that can be taken on your part to manage insomnia. Things you can do to help improve and get you a good night’s sleep need not be hard. Drinking tea, reading a book or taking a shower before going to bed are simple acts that will help. In the face of the insomnia challenge, one need not lose heart with so many effective treatment options to choose from to make that difference needed to improve sleep quality.
It’s not wise to leave insomnia untreated due to grave consequences that may follow as with any sleep depriving condition. It’s not uncommon to start hallucinating when you deprive yourself of proper sleep over a long time for one, and it can also lead to much more serious health repercussions.
Consequently, if you find yourself not sleeping properly for a long time and think that you may be suffering from insomnia, you should immediately consult a medical professional. This is the most important first step to effective insomnia help one can get.

A sustained period of prolonged sleeplessness can result very quickly in chronic insomnia. People suffering from chronic insomnia are more accident and injury prone than those who are not. They are also likely victims of anxiety and depression.
If insomnia is seen as a symptom, then what is behind it?
What are some common causes of insomnia?
